My first post in Lumieres is a compilation of the 4 MOST exciting moments in the history of world sports.
He just scored a GOAL!With his HAND!!!
No one can claim to have scored football’s most controversial goal and “the Goal of the Century” minutes between each other in a World cup quarter final – but Diego Maradona just did that in Mexico, 1986. (4 years after Argentina had surrendered to the United Kingdom following the 74-days-long Falklands War) In the 51st minute, Diego Maradona beat the English keeper, extending his left hand and punching it past the England keeper and into the net. 1-0. England players complained, but referee had failed to spot the handball and so the goal stood.
I m gonna play as weird as possible..But still WIN!!
A shot! In practicality it was – just a flick of the wrist, really! To those facing it-An act of desperation and moreover it was utter impudence.
Such was Micheal Chang’s victory over No.1 Lendl in the 1989 French Open Round of 16 ; which was a five-set cliff hanger filled with pain and suspense. The famous under-handed serve of Micheal Chang astonished not only his opponent but also the crowd there. This was also followed by some banana eating sessions which irritated Lendl resulting in him losing both- Match and the tag of crowd’s favorite!
I ll bite anyway!!
Haven’t seen this, but trust me this act replenishes my faith that a human CAN turn into an animal at times. Termed as Tyson-Holyfield II, the fight began with Holyfield dominating Tyson. With forty seconds remaining in the 3rd round Holyfield got Tyson in a clinch and Tyson rolled his head above Holyfield’s shoulder and bit Holyfield on his right ear, cutting a one-inch piece of cartilage from the top of the ear, and spitting out the piece of ear on the ring floor. The fight was delayed and then the referee announced he would be deducting two points from Tyson and the fight continued. During another clinch, Tyson bit Holyfield’s left ear. Now that was a double whammy which almost sent Tyson to the prison.
Don’t go overboard!!
I remember I was in grade 3 when I witnessed this spectacular event at Bangalore in the 1996 WC .After Jadeja had destroyed Waqar Younis by scoring 45 off 25 balls, Aamir Sohail left no stone unturned in taking Pakistan to the brink of a famous victory. But there came a moment where he decided to flirt with danger. He smashed Venkatesh Prasad for a boundary through covers. He also pointed his bat, first towards Prasad then towards the boundary indicating that THIS would be the treatment to every ball! Next ball Venky came back like a phoenix bowling a beautiful delivery to pluck Aamir Sohail s off stump and then Prasad jumping and showing him the way back to the pavillion.Moral-Never try to maul a tiger in his own den!
