Hindi cinema can boast of very few movies which have no positive characters in them.If I have to name some I would say Paanch, Shaitaan, Saaheb Biwi Aur Gangster. Now Tigmanshu Dhulia is back with his sequel to Saaheb Biwi Aur Gangster. He aptly adds a returns to it and along with it he brings a power performer Irrfan Khan.
Saaheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns(SBAGR) starts where the first part ends. Saaheb is confined to wheel chair and his wife takes up politics but what has turned even more worse is their relationship. Saaheb cannot stand the sight of his wife but is mesmerized by Ranjana(Soha Ali Khan) s beauty and
wants her at any cost. In comes our Gangster Inderjeet Singh aka Raja Bhaiyya who is scheming, cunniving and ofcourse ruthless in making sure he not only charms Biwi with his talks but also sets up a political storm for Saaheb. Rest of the story is about how the characters change their color at various points in the movie with far aplenty twists and turns. In short SBAGR is a very complicated movie. You need to assume far too many things while watching it. But for people with apetite for serious and hard hitting cinema will love the movie.
Performances..well all the actors do justice to their roles and as expected Irrfan stands out. His one liners call for whistles when he is on screen. Jimmy is fantastic with his restrained mannerisms. Watch out for the scene where and Irrfan come face to face. Mahie and Soha are passable except for some scene where they prove their prowess. I still think the problem with the movie is its complicated storyline with too many side tracks like the political issue of state division which is not etched out well. Also at some instances there are no connectors between 2 scenes. They just seem random like the one in which Jimmy fires a bullet for no reason.
Overall I would say you can avoid this movie if you are really looking for a peaceful weekend. Relax this weekend and get ready for Arshad Warsi s Jolly LLB next week!
