This is the first part of three-part series of Top 5 in Bollywood this year.
My Top 5 films of 2015
Released early in the year(January) it was unarguably one of the best edge of the seat thrillers in recent years. The patriotism angle just added to the movie’s energy. Baby is about a set of Indian Spies who carry out secret operations against terrorists associated with 2008 Mumbai Attacks. Apart from its slick direction, the movie had excellent performances from Akshay Kumar and Danny Denzongpa. I switched off my phone to ensure that I did not miss a single dialogue from this fast paced movie. Hafeez Saeed look-alike was a total show stealer and sent chills down your spine when he spoke about intentions of the dreaded terrorist. Must watch!
2. Bajrangi Bhaijaan
You can call this THE wholesome entertainer of 2015. With a novel script and heart warming performances the movie won over everyone; be it the young or the old. Unlike any other Salman Khan movie, this movie had a message and most importantly did not brand itself a no-brainer. Watched this movie at a packed house in a multiplex and I couldn’t help but notice the moist eyes of the audience who just wanted the young Shahida(Harshaali Malhotra) to unite with her parents. Not to miss Nawazuddin in a super-duper cameo role.
To be honest; even now when I think about this movie I am lost in my thoughts. Who killed Shruti(Aarushi) and (K)Hemraj? A question that is still as open ended as it was 8 years back! Irrfan Khan is simply superb as the CBI officer investigating the case. Meghana Gulzar’s best movie till date and highly recommended for those who like serious cinema. Rashomon styled murder-storytelling: Goosebumps!
4. Bajirao Mastani
Sanjay Leela Bhansali(SLB)’s magnum opus which was in news/making from past 13 years finally hit the screens with Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. A typical Bhansali movie with grand sets and top notch performances, the movie surely will turn out to be a top contender across award functions. Do not the miss the scene where Bajirao & Mastani’s love story is out in Aaina Mahal and looking at her husband and his lover, Kashibai sets the screen(image of them both) on fire. Once again SLB showed us why he is the king of large canvas!
5. Tanu Weds Manu Returns
Undoubtedly the ultimate mad caper of 2015. Thanks to Kangana’s double dhamaka and Deepak Dobriyal’s histrionics the sequel of Tanu Weds Manu was greeted with whistles and claps by the audience. In times where sequels generally do not match up with first part, this movie clearly stands out as a winner. Kangana may end up picking the black lady once again after Queen!
